Stop Protecting Yourself from Fear and Break Your Limits

scripture
The topic of "self protection is a lie" came up while listening to the Seek the Edge Podcast by Kelsey with Xpand Your Limits.  Kelsey was giving her insight related to the book she started reading titled "The Mountain is You."  The type of "self-protection" that Kelsey spoke of is related to protecting yourself from fear.  She related this back to the Xpand Your Limits event for women back on May 17th that included a run (1 mile or 5K) and/or a powerlifting meet.  I participated in the powerlifting meet and you can read my recap in this blog post.

If I stayed home where it's safe rather than participating in the powerlifting meet, I would have never failed 2 back squats and 1 bench press in front of hundreds of people.  I also would have never surprised myself by executing a 175 pound deadlift.  I also likely would have never done any powerlifting training. I spent so much of my life staying in my comfort zone.  While it's wasn't easy, doing something uncomfortable like a competition where I lifted in front of other people outside of my gym was what I needed to spark a passion for powerlifting.  Coach Jonathan often says "Get uncomfortable with being uncomfortable."

I choose to find my strength in a Higher Power that I call God.  I know he will not forsake me or abandon me.  God gives us not just physical strength but also mental strength.  The last couple weeks of work have been brutal and mentally taxing.  With God's help, I made it through the challenges.

By talking with God in prayer, I am increasing my physical strength by doing the Steadfast Strength program for the next several months until it is time to begin prep for my next powerlifting meet.  The strength class focuses on the core lifts squat, bench, and deadlift but also builds in shoulder press, sled work, and dumbbell or kettlebell accessory lifts. There is limited cardio although it does show up occasionally in some metcons because our heart is a muscle that needs training, too.

I encourage you to check out the "Seek the Edge" podcast.  I listen to it through YouTube Music which is part of the Android Auto application for listening to podcasts while I drive.  It should also be available through Apple or Spotify.

Feeling Stuck? God May Be Waiting for Your Leap of Faith

The feeling of being stuck can grip anyone at any time. It creeps in when life doesn’t go as planned or when dreams seem distant. Many people find themselves paralyzed by uncertainty, unsure of what step to take next. However, this feeling might not mean you’re lost. Instead, it could signal a divine invitation to move forward in faith, even without knowing the outcome.  In simple terms: "God's Will Not Mine."

Understanding God's Timing and Our Role

Many folks believe that God orchestrates every detail of their lives like a puppet master. This misconception can lead to inaction, waiting for a sign or a push. But God often waits for us to invite Him into our journey. It’s essential to recognize this invitation.

  • Active Participation: Our role is to step into faith actively. We are not mere spectators; we have a part to play.
  • Scriptural References: The Bible is filled with examples urging proactive faith. Hebrews 11 highlights many who acted boldly without knowing the results.

Overcoming Fear and Doubt: The Stepping Stone to Faith

One major reason people hesitate is fear. Doubts creep in, creating barriers that keep us from moving forward. Identifying these fears is the first step.

  • Root Causes: Common reasons include past failures, potential rejection, or fear of disappointment.
  • Managing Anxiety: Techniques like deep breathing, visualization, and journaling can help alleviate these feelings.
  • Positive Self-Talk: Affirmations can counter negative thoughts. Phrases like “I am capable” remind us of our worth.

The Importance of Prayer and Seeking Guidance

Prayer is vital when navigating uncertainty. It’s not just about asking for help but also about listening.

  • Discerning God’s Will: Take time in prayer to seek clarity. Journaling about your thoughts can enhance this process.
  • Biblical Examples: Figures like Abraham and Moses acted in faith despite uncertainty. Their stories inspire us to trust even when the path isn't clear.
  • Spiritual Disciplines: Fasting, meditation, and studying scripture can help in understanding God’s guidance.

Taking the Leap: Practical Steps Towards Action

Taking steps toward action can be daunting but manageable. Start by breaking your journey into smaller, achievable goals.

  • Define Goals: Set specific, realistic goals that align with your faith.
  • Support System: Surround yourself with encouraging friends or mentors who can hold you accountable and offer support.
  • Learning from Setbacks: Mistakes are part of the journey. Embrace them as learning opportunities rather than failures.

Trusting the Process: Embracing the Unknown

Accepting uncertainty is a significant part of faith. Life is inherently unpredictable, and it’s crucial to embrace that.

  • Cultivating Patience: Developing patience helps in dealing with challenges. Trust the process, knowing that everything unfolds in God's timing.
  • Perseverance: Challenges mold character. Each struggle can teach resilience and strength.
  • Gratitude: Practicing gratitude shifts focus from what’s missing to the blessings already present.

Embracing the Journey of Faith

Feeling stuck can be overwhelming, but it can also lead to growth. God might just be waiting for you to take that step of faith. Recall the key steps: take action, engage in prayer, and trust. Step into the unknown with confidence.

This call to action is clear: take a leap of faith today. Whether it's a small move towards a goal or reaching out for support, make that first step. Embrace the journey even when the outcome is unclear. Your faith can turn your uncertainty into an opportunity for growth and discovery.

Why Your Dreams Matter More than Your Doubts

Doubt creeps in when uncertainty takes over our thoughts. It makes us question our choices and abilities, often leading to hesitation. This feeling can stem from fear of failure or the pressure to meet expectations. When doubt arises, it can cloud judgment and impact decisions, leaving one feeling stuck. Overcoming doubt requires building confidence and trusting one's instincts, which can lead to clearer paths and better outcomes.

Google informed me this blog did not meet their criteria for the AdSense program as the content is not engaging and it is low traffic.  I was disappointed but I didn't have time to dwell on it as I was off to Crossfit class. I came across the email later in the evening while my husband Jon and I were watching TV and I still didn't think too much about it.

I've started a new bedtime routine these past couple of weeks where I come up to my bedroom and I read a physical book with a little reading light before I get into bed. The goal is to reduce blue light exposure from devices right before climbing into bed.

The book I'm reading is Unshakable Trust by Joyce Meyer. The pages that night were in the chapter on doubt.  These words from Joyce stood out to me:

"I once heard that doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.  Don't let doubt derail your faith.  Recognize it for what it is and move past it in faith!"

The timing of those words was perfect as they encouraged me before doubt could settle in.  So what if Google doesn't like my content?  This blog is a creative outlet for me.  I also spend more time studying and reflecting on God's word when putting together content.  A closer relationship with God is more valuable than money.
