Finding Peace in the Waiting

Waiting is hard, especially when it involves our health. Recently, I've been navigating some sinus concerns and the uncertainty that comes with medical appointments, tests, and unanswered questions. While my situation is nowhere near as serious or life-altering as the cancer journeys described in the article below, it has reminded me that waiting can stir up fear, impatience, and countless "what ifs."

What I appreciate about Resting in God's Peace While Waiting For a Diagnosis is that it speaks honestly about the emotional weight of medical uncertainty while pointing us toward faith, peace, and trust in God. The author's experience with cancer and other significant health challenges is far more difficult than anything I am facing, and I want to acknowledge that difference with humility. Yet the lesson about finding peace in the middle of uncertainty is something many of us can relate to, regardless of the severity of our circumstances.

Whether you're waiting for test results, answers from a doctor, healing, or simply clarity about the next step, I hope you'll find encouragement in these reflections. Sometimes peace doesn't come from having all the answers. Sometimes it comes from knowing we don't have to face the waiting alone.

Imagine a Country of Courage and Compassion

Imagine a country whose citizens—and even its leaders—are brave, calm, and open toward one another. A nation where people listen before they speak, seek to understand before they argue, and extend grace before judgment.

What would it look like if we all recognized that every human being belongs to the same family? That no matter where we live, what we believe, or how we appear on the surface, the same light flickers within us all.

It’s a powerful vision, yet it begins not in government halls or global treaties—but in the quiet chambers of the human heart. Real change, the kind that heals and unites, doesn’t come through force or policy. It comes through consciousness: an awakening to who we truly are and what we are capable of when love guides our actions.

Imagine leaders who lead not with fear, but with calm strength. Citizens who respond to crisis not with panic, but with peace. Communities that choose compassion over competition.

When we rise above our divisions and remember our shared humanity, we plant seeds for a new world—a country of courage and kindness, grounded in truth and open-hearted awareness.

Perhaps the greatest revolution is not political at all, but spiritual—a change of heart that reminds us we are one people, created to walk this journey together.

So today, let us begin where we are. Let us embody that courage, calm, and openness in our daily lives. For the country we imagine can only come to life through the consciousness we carry within us.

Stop Leaning on Your Own Understanding and Find Peace

Sometimes, we find ourselves in a place that feels hopeless. We struggle, pushing against life's challenges, thinking the answer lies in our own efforts. Yet, when we finally let go, we discover a profound peace that comes from surrendering our worries to a higher power. The feeling of being stuck may not be a sign of failure; it could mean that God is waiting for us to stop relying solely on our own understanding.

To practice trusting in God, start small. Take daily moments to pause and reflect. Acknowledge that you don’t have to figure everything out alone. By doing this, you open the door for guidance and support.  I ask God to help me trust Him and to lean on Him rather than myself.

Feeling exhausted or defeated is common. These emotions often show that you may be trying too hard to control what happens. Realizing this is the first step in letting go. Consider this a wake up call for both you and me.

Have you ever ignored advice or your instincts? Disregarding these feelings can reveal a strong desire to manage situations, which might block your ability to see the right path.

Missed Chances
When you concentrate only on your goals, you may miss out on opportunities from God. His path might differ from yours, but it can lead to greater rewards.

The Impact of Prayer
Prayer is more than a habit; it’s a direct link to God. By praying, you release your need to control everything. This brings peace into your life.

Listening for Guidance
It can be hard to recognize signs from God. Notice moments when you feel calm or clear about a choice. These feelings, though subtle, are often important.

Proverbs 8:9

Mindfulness Practices
Mindfulness can quiet your mind. Spend a few minutes each day just breathing and being present. This encourages a deeper sense of letting go.

Gratitude Focus
Practicing gratitude changes how you see life. Regularly acknowledge the good things in your life and celebrate small wins. This can open your heart to God’s intentions.

Lowering Stress
Letting go of control helps reduce stress. Research shows that managing your expectations can ease anxiety, creating space for tranquility.  God definitely knows that I need to reduce my stress!

Growing Faith
As you let go, your faith grows. You learn to trust God’s direction, strengthening your spiritual bond and providing a renewed sense of meaning.

Unexpected Blessings
Think about someone who found positive change after relinquishing control. Often, letting go opens doors you never thought possible. These blessings can change your life.

In summary, embracing surrender helps you recognize that maybe you're not stuck. By practicing trust, seeking guidance, and understanding God's timing, you can experience profound blessings. Take a moment each day to practice surrender and trust in God's plans.

Remember, peace and fulfillment lie in letting go of control and embracing the journey God has laid out for you. Start today, and watch how your life transforms as you learn to lean less on your own understanding and more on divine wisdom.

How to Let Go of Grudges and Find Peace

Ephesians 4:32
The story in italics is a fictional story written during the Plain City Writing Group meeting as part of a descriptive writing prompt exercise.  After reflecting on what I wrote, I realized it shows the power of compassion and forgiveness.  I sought out related scripture verses for our reflection.

At the Der Dutchman last Thursday evening, there was an argument between two men. The men were arguing because there was only one maple Long John left in the case and each of them wanted that donut. Since it was evening, there would be no more maple Long Johns available until the next morning.

The bakery was busy as is often when diners come in to purchase treats to take home to enjoy the next day. Two men arguing over a single donut tested the patience of the customers and staff in the bakery during this time.

A customer who had made a bakery purchase was coming out of the gift shop and asked about the commotion. Someone told her about the men arguing over the last maple Long John. It happened to be that this woman had purchased a maple Long John in the items that she purchased. She approached the men and offered the maple Long John provided that she would be given a different flavor Long John in return. One man purchased a chocolate Long John, gave it to the woman and took the maple Long John from her.The other man purchased the last maple Long John.

Colossians 3:13
The latter man approached the other man and apologized for being difficult. He explained that he was going to visit his grandson at St. Jude's Children's Hospital the next day. His grandson is undergoing cancer treatment and loves Der Dutchman's maple Long Johns.

This moved the other man to tears who insisted he take the maple Long John he'd exchanged for so his grandson could have two to enjoy. The offer was graciously accepted. Both men cried, exchanged a brief hug and apologized to each other for how they acted.
