Notice: Fewer New Blog Posts Later in December

Seasons Greetings Santini Serenity Readers!

I wanted to let everyone know that there will likely be fewer new blog posts later this month of December so that I can be present with my family during the Christmas and the New Year's holidays.  My husband's birthday is New Year's Eve so there is a bonus celebration for us.

I am working during the last 2 weeks of December with a three employer holidays during that time.  Ideally, work will be slow so I might be able to sneak in some writing. Providing content to my readers is important but I believe all of you can appreciate the importance of family and will likely be spending time with loved ones as well.

Thank you again for reading my blog.  I appreciate all of you.

I wish you and yours all the best this Holiday Season!

May God Bless and Keep You Safe,

Jodi

The Power of Small Goals: How to Reach Your Dreams

2 Timothy 1:6 CEV

To make the most of the rest of this year, start by setting clear, achievable goals. Break these goals down into smaller tasks you can tackle each week. Make a schedule to stay organized and prioritize what’s important. Take time to reflect on what has worked for you so far and what hasn’t. This helps you learn and adjust your approach. Don’t forget to celebrate your small wins along the way; it keeps you motivated. Finally, stay open to new opportunities that come your way; they could lead to unexpected growth and success.

How do you plan to make the most of what remains in 2024?  What are your dreams as you prepare for 2025?

God has called me to spend more time in his Word.  Spending more time in scripture compelled me to revisit a long-lost dream of writing.

When I was little I used to write stories, almost fairy tales of sorts.  As I got older, my stories included boy crushes.  Notebook paper pages written in either pencil or erasable pen, are long gone but my desire to write remains.

When I first started this blog, I hadn't really given much thought to what I was going to write about to be completely honest.  I hoped that my random musings would attract a following so I could earn money from Google.  Those of you who have been reading my blog know that I was declined due to low traffic because my content is not engaging.

I could have given up blogging after Google turned me away but I didn't.  It inspired me to take a different approach with my blog by combining my scripture study with writing.  I don't have a lot of followers but I plan to continue writing. This blog is a creative outlet that I didn't realize that I needed.  My full-time work is data related and creative is limited to perhaps some charts and graphs rather than text tables.

I've been praying about possibly writing a book.  I have periods of time off between now and the early part of 2025 so I might explore it.

Blog Share: The Erstwhile Acorn

I have a routine medical appointment scheduled before office hours in Columbus today. Due to this appointment, I will not have the time to write anything myself. However, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a blog that was written by my friend Sue Cutler. I met Sue through St. Joseph Church, and I believe her insights are valuable. Her writing often focuses on topics that resonate with many people, and I think you will find her perspective interesting and engaging. Please take a moment to check out her blog; I believe you’ll enjoy what she has to say.

Why Are Social Media Connections So Important for You?

Oh my goodness, I've had a learning experience today.  I setup a "Santini Serenity" Facebook page that is now connected with my Instagram. I'm using this site called Buffer to connect Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.  This all makes Crossfit seem like it's easy!  Ha!!😁

Patty and I enjoyed a cozy night under a blanket on Tuesday night.  I'm looking forward to more of the same tonight.

From Struggles to Strength: My Story

I thought perhaps I'd share a bit about me and my journey.

Nine years ago, on January 15, 2015, I declared powerlessness over alcohol. This was after I mentioned to my primary care doctor that I thought I might have a drinking problem but I drank for a few more day. I went to Dublin Springs for an assessment and was almost admitted for inpatient treatment except they don't take the insurance I have through OSU. I was wished good luck and sent home. A few days later, I walked into a Saturday morning AA meeting. I met some wonderfully patient people and, with the help of a sponsor, walked through the AA 12 Steps. Shortly after finishing those 12 steps, the unplanned happened which was my Mom had a stroke and died after a week at Riverside. To speed up my story, I took over as my Dad's power of attorney which was a HUGE learning experience. He passed away in September 2016.

I truly believe if God hadn't intervened in my life so that I admitted I had an alcohol problem that I might not be here today writing this blog. I certainly wouldn't have taken two mission trips (Haiti and Guatemala), joined a walking club where I walked two half marathons, watched my son Jon III graduate high school in 2021, nor would I have joined Steadfast/Crossfit Plain City shortly after Jon's graduation. The people in my life have changed a bit over the last couple years yet I'm extremely blessed to have such a wonderful support system of friends and family.

What I shared above has been on mind recently because my cell phone and personal laptop where purchased in early sobriety. My cell phone operating system is WAY out of date and can no longer be updated so buying a new phone is necessary. As for the laptop, I bought a cheap Android tablet a couple years ago and a case with a built in keyboard to replace it. I didn't use it much until I started blogging. I hoped to get an external monitor but it isn't supported so getting a new laptop might be on the horizon but the phone is priority. I started this blogging journey as a way to express creativity through writing but also to earn some money. I've been working to integrate Google Adsense into this blog and I am using Google Analytics to collect traffic information. I also have started sharing some of my affiliate marketing links. I've also been reading the different ways to share my blog across multiple platforms. Books and websites that I've read are from people with seven figure incomes who were able to quit their "9 to 5." While I am not setting out to quit my "7 to 3" my goal is to retire from OSU at the appropriate time, a little extra money for savings and retirement is nice. I made $20 between Branded Surveys and Survey Junkie over the past several weeks. I wanted to be transparent with my journey not just as a recovering alcoholic but also about my blogging and affiliate marketing side hustle (that's the cool kid term).

Update: I was denied by Google Adsense but I blog anyway.  I have a dedicated page for my affiliate marketing links for those who are interested.
